CURATORS: T. Melih GÖRGÜN, Emre ZEYTİNOĞLU

ARTISTS: Melis BAĞATIR, Hakan DAĞDELEN, Şeref EROL, Volkan KIZILTUNÇ, Ebru Ceren UZUN

WORK: 8 posters + 1 book

DIMENTIONS: 100 cm x 70 cm

THEME: The main theme of the exhibition was Pandora's Box.

THESIS:

My main theme is censorship. Just like censorship, Pandora’s Box involves something we don’t know what’s inside. We don’t know what’s behind the black tape or the beep sound during the interviews, but we want to know what is behind. There is a will to reach the hidden information, just like the will to reach the information what Pandora’s Box contains.

POSTERS:

UN ARTICLE NUMBER 19
‘‘Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.’’

Although there ‘is’ a freedom of opinion, it is actually censored, filtered. I tried to show this restriction by crossing certain words of the sentence.

WORDS
Some key words from the sentence are chosen and the black tape is placed on them, making the meaning different from what it actually indicates.

BOOKLET:

With the help of the transparent sheet, black tape comes on top of each other and creates a certain texture. In the last page, Un Article 19 is written but some viewers doesn't really examine the booklet very carefully, so they miss to see the main sentence hidden at the back page. This is a little game for the viewers to see how they actually look at/examine the booklet.
